The Sensex is down 8.35 pointsat 28966.7 and the Nifty is up 1.60 points at 8756.55. About 503 shares have advanced, 208 shares declined, and 122 shares are unchanged.
Tata Power, Coal India, Hindalco, L&T and Wipro are top gainers in the Sensex. Among the losers are Sesa Sterlite, HDFC, Bharti, SBI and Dr Reddy's Labs.
The Indian rupee has opened higher at 62.25 per dollar against previous day's closing value of 62.32 a dollar.
